Bessanone is a beautiful, very old city in northern Italy, in a region known as South Tyrol.
South Tyrol was once part of a country called Tyrol, and was also a part of Austria.
South Tyrol became a part of Italy after World War 1.
Because of its Austrian history, it is much more Austrian than Italian. People will understand German there, as well as Italian, and all cities have two names - one in German and one in Italian.
Bressanone (Italian) is also known as Brixen (German).
It is a very beautiful city indeed.
To the north of Bressanone is the Brenner Mountain Pass. I crossed this mountain pass by train when I left Bressanone.
